Heavy rains brought the city to a virtual standstill on Friday as waterlogged roads and streets slowed down traffic, causing inconvenience to hundreds of commuters.

The Met Department recorded 26.2 mm of rains and 100 per cent humidity until 8.30 am.

The rains started early in the morning and lashed the entire city and adjoining areas. It also brought with it the perennial problem of waterlogging and traffic jams at all major roads and busy intersections.

Commuters and office-goers had a harrowing time as they were caught in flooded streets and traffic snarls. "With traffic coming to a standstill, it's a nightmare to get out on a rainy day in Delhi," said Rahul Rishi, a software engineer working in Noida.

Waterlogging and traffic jams were witnessed on Ring Road, near Dhaula Kuan, Mayapuri flyover and all along the outer ring road from IIT to SubrotoPark. Also, break down of several cars added to slowing down of traffic.

Traffic was heavy at G D Road, P D Road, O P Marg, Paschimi Marg, near Munirka market and both carriage way towards Gurgaon due to waterlogging.

Traffic movement was slow at Aurobindo Marg due to waterlogging. Heavy traffic jam was witnessed on Africa Avenue towards Chanakyapuri underpass.

Similarly, heavy traffic jam was witnessed at OkhlaCrownPlaza red light, at Jasola and Kalindi Kunj, from Qutub Minar to Chhatarpur.

"I usually leave home at 8.30 am but due to rain I left early at 8 and have been stuck in traffic for last two hours," said Amit Saurav, whose office is in Jasola.

The Met Department has forecast a generally cloudy day with more rain ahead.
