The public prosecution in Dubai has granted bail to five Anna Hazare supporters who were jailed for violating United Arab Emirates national security laws on August 21.

The Indian nationals were held by the Dubai police for organising a walk to support the anti-corruption movement without obtaining permission from the local authorities. Their first request for bail was rejected on August 25, as the public prosecution cited that the investigations into the case had not been complete.

Hashik T K, the lawyer who represented three of the accused, said that the Dubai public prosecution granted bail to the accused on Sunday.

"All of them have secured bail. We are finishing the paper works for their release," Hashik told Khaleej Times.

The accused had to spend nine more days behind bars since all government offices including the courts were closed due to Eid holidays that ended on Sunday.

The Indians were detained after one of them organised a 3km walk in Al Mamzar Beach Park to express solidarity with Hazare who was on an indefinite hunger strike in New Delhi.

The man had mobilised public support for the walk through Facebook.
