A gunfight erupted between security forces and a group of holed up terrorists in South Kashmir’s Pulwama district on Tuesday evening.

A senior police officer said troops of counter insurgency Rashtriya Rifles, paramilitary Central Reserve Police Force and Special Operations Group of the state police jointly surrounded Naina village in Pulwama on specific information about the presence of a group of terrorists in the village.

"As the security forces were busy searching the area, hiding militants opened fire at them triggering an encounter," he said.

"More reinforcements have been rushed there," he added.
