Congress MLA from the Anjar assembly segment of Kutch in Gujarat, Nima Acharya, suspended from the party for anti-party activities three years ago, on Thursday submitted her resignation as MLA to the assembly speaker and announced to join the BJP.

After submitting her resignation to Speaker Mangaldas Patel in Gandhinagar, she also quit the Congress.

Acharya faxed her resignation letter to Gujarat unit Congress president Bharatsinh Solanki.

"I have decided to join BJP and an official announcement about the same will be done at the right time," she told PTI.

Acharya is the second MLA to quit the Congress for anti-party activities in the last few days ahead of the assembly polls.

Earlier, Manish Giletwala, a former MLA from Surat (East) constituency had resigned and also quit the Congress.

Party's Umargaon MLA Shankar Varli was recently suspended for six years from the primary membership of the Congress for anti-party activities.

Another legislator from Dwarka constituency, Pabubha Manek, has been issued a showcause notice by the Congress, seeking his explanation on why he attended a function of Gujarat Chief Minister Narendra Modi.
