An important boulevard in Mongolian capital Ulaanbataar has been named after Mahatma Gandhi as part of the celebrations to mark the 50th anniversary of diplomatic relations.
In a reciprocal gesture, a street leading to domestic airport in New Delhi has been named as Ulaanbaatar Street and a plaque in this regard will be unveiled by visiting Mongolian Foreign Minister Ts Munh-Orgil and Chief Minister Sheila Dikshit on Saturday, a press release issued in New Delhi by the External Affairs Ministry said.
To commemorate the occasion, the Presidents and the Prime Ministers of the two countries have exchanged messages of congratulations and greetings.
In his message to his Mongolian counterpart Nambar Enkhbayar, President A P J Abdul Kalam expressed confidence that the bilateral relations will continue to grow and flourish.
Prime Minister Manmohan Singh said he was confident that the relations between the two countries would attain greater vibrancy in future given the mutual goodwill that exists between them.
The Mongolian President expressed appreciation for the enormous contribution made by India to recognise its independence and enable Mongolia to join the world community as a full member of the United Nations.
The Mongolian prime minister said there was an avenue for the development and strengthening of bilateral cooperation in the sphere of information technology, education and culture.
