A Pakistani court on Monday admitted a new petition asking it to direct authorities to bar sacked Ambassador to the US, Husain Haqqani, from travelling outside the country.

The Lahore high court admitted the petition filed by lawyer Javaid Iqbal Jafri for regular hearing. Haqqani was forced to resign recently after being linked to a secret memo sent to the US military seeking help to prevent a possible military coup in Pakistan.

Haqqani has denied that he played any role in drafting or delivering the memo which was made public by Pakistani-American businessman Mansoor Ijaz.

In his petition, Jafri asked the court to order authorities to put Haqqani's name on the Exit Control List maintained by the interior ministry.

He further said the court should direct authorities to question Haqqani. After initial arguments, the court admitted the petition and issued notices to the parties for submitting their replies.

Former premier Nawaz Sharif has filed a similar petition against Haqqani in the Supreme Court.
