A fire broke out in a room next to Defence Minister Pranab Mukherjee's chamber in South Block, New Delhi, on Monday.
The fire, described as "minor", was due to a short-circuit in the antechamber next to Mukherjee's room, according to the fire department.
The fire was brought under control within minutes, they said, adding no casualties were reported.
Mukherjee was not present in the office at the time of the incident.
The South Block houses the prime minister's office and ministries of defence and external affairs.
