A fire broke out in a building at the Chhatrapati Shivaji Terminus station in Mumbai on Friday evening but no casualty has been reported so far, fire officials said.

The blaze started on the fifth floor of the new administrative building of the Central Railway at D N Road. Eight fire tenders were rushed to the spot, according to fire brigade officials.

"We got a call at about 5 pm and we immediately pressed four fire tenders into service. Thereafter, the fire was upgraded one notch to Grade 2 and a total of eight fire tenders, snorkels and ambulances have now been rushed to the spot," an official said.

Vehicular traffic on the JJ flyover has been halted temporarily and services of few trains in the suburban line have also been affected, they said.

The cause of the blaze has not been ascertained yet and efforts are on to evacuate the officials working in the building, the official added.
