A gunfight between holed up militants and security forces erupted in the central Kashmir Budgam district on Wednesday.

A senior police officer said security forces surrounded a house in the Hushroo village near Chadoora on specific information about presence of a group of militants inside it.

“As the security forces challenged the holed up militants to surrender, they opened fire triggering a gunfight which is on,” the officer said. “We have reports of presence of two militants inside the house,” he added.

More reinforcements have been rushed to the area and the cordon is being strengthened.

The operation is being carried out jointly by the troops of counter insurgency Rashtriya Rifles and special operations group of the state police.
