Reacting strongly to North Korea over its statement claiming that its missiles can Strike inside United States territory, the US administration said the North Korean regime should spend its resources and energy on feeding its own people rather than bragging about its missile capabilities.

"Rather than bragging about its missile capability, they ought to be feeding their own people," said Victoria Nuland, the State Department spokesperson.

"The DPRK needs to understand that it will achieve nothing by threats or provocations. That's only going to undermine their efforts to get back into conversation with the international community," she said.

Nuland was responding to a North Korean statement in which it said that its missiles can strike the US territory, including the mainland.

"These changes in missile guidance are defensive in nature. I would note that we haven't changed these ranges or capabilities since 2001, at a time when the North has been very clearly working and boasting about their own capabilities," she said.

"The North Koreans know what they need to do if they want to get back into a conversation with the United States. This is boasting about something rather than taking care of the needs of their own people," she said in response to a question.
