A month after their acquittal in the 26/11 terror attack case, Faheem Ansari and Sabauddin Ahmed were on Wednesday shifted from the Arthur Road Central Jail in Mumbai to Uttar Pradesh in connection with an attack on a CRPF camp.
They will stand trial in a court in UP in connection with the attack on a CRPF camp at Rampur on December 31, 2007, in which eight persons including seven personnel of the paramilitary force were killed, officials said.
The duo were acquitted on May 3 in the 26/11 Mumbai attack case by special judge M L Tahaliyani for lack of reliable evidence.
The judge had ordered setting them free unless they faced trial in other cases. The two were accused of conducting a recce of Mumbai and preparing a map of targets which was sent to Lashkar-e-Tayiba operatives in Pakistan and used by the 10 terrorists who attacked the city on November 26, 2008.
Faheem and Sabauddin were escorted by Mumbai police to the Lokmanya Tilak Terminus in suburban Kurla from where they boarded a train to Uttar Pradesh, jail authorities said.
The move comes a day after Faheem's lawyer had approached Tahaliyani, who is presently the Principal Judge of sessions court, seeking direction to Arthur Road Jail authorities to shift him to UP.
Tahaliyani had asked Faheem's lawyer Khalid Mohammad to approach the Rampur court, as he does not have the powers in the case any more.
