Uttarakhand Chief Minister Tirath Singh Rawat, sprung from national political obscurity this past week via the benevolence of the BJP's ruling duo, is anxious to make a mark.

No, not as you expect by providing Uttarakhand with good, quick, administration, but by his pronouncements.

First came Rawat's bizarre, reported, declaration that Narendra Damodardas Modi would be worshipped in the future just as Lord Ram is done today!

On Wednesday, the former RSS apparatchik declared his opposition to women wearing 'ripped' jeans.

Young people and others have mocked Rawat's comments on social media, but we doubt if it will muzzle a CM eager to sprint ahead in the competitive Hindutva race featuring BJP chief ministers these days.

Dominic Xavier though wonders why politicians always seem to have a problem with the way our women dress.
