A shutdown against the issuance of Dogra certificate to the residents of Jammu called by the hard-line separatist leader Syed Ali Shah Geelani affected normal life in capital Srinagar and other towns for the third day running on Monday.
The shutdown came close on the heels of the two day protest strike against the killing of a top Islamic cleric and president of Jamiat Ahle-hadees Maulana Showkat Ahmad Shah in a blast on Friday.
The issuance of the Dogri certificate has triggered a row in Jammu and Kashmir with the separatist leaders and the mainstream Peoples Democratic Party crying foul and demanding its immediate revocation.
Responding to the outcry in the Valley over the issue, the state government now plans to bring the issue before the state cabinet and also request the Union home ministry for including all permanent residents of the state for relaxation in appointments in army.
Monday's strike shut shops, businesses in capital Srinagar and other towns. Skeletal public and private transport was seen plying on the roads in Srinagar.
