A Bharatiya Janata Party legislator in Uttar Pradesh assembly on Tuesday demanded 'Y' security cover for legislator Suresh Rana, accused of inciting Muzaffarnagar riots, citing security threat to him.
Raising the matter in the assembly during zero hour, BJP member Satish Mahana said that Rana, who has been released on bail, is facing threat and should be provided Y-security
cover.
Y category has a security cover of 11 personnel.
Citing the example of cleric Maulana Nazir, a riot accused who has been given Y-security, Mahana said Rana should also be given the same security cover.
However, Chief Minister Akhilesh Yadav and Parliamentary Affairs minister Mohd Azam Khan did not give any assurance to Mahana on providing security to Rana.
Speaker Mata Prasad Pandey said the government should look into the matter as it pertains to security of the legislator.
