As part of the countrywide demonstration, supporters of Anna Hazare on Thursday held peaceful demonstration in front of the rented house of Prime Minister Dr Manmohan Singh in Guwahati shouting slogans demanding introduction and adoption of the Jan Lokpal Bill to fight corruption.

Another group of demonstrators held a similar dharna in front of the city residence of Guwahati Lok Sabha member of Parliament and Bharatiya Janata Party's national vice-president Bijoya Chakraborty.

Two groups of demonstrators staged dharna in front of the PM's rented house at Sarumotoria locality near Assam's capital complex at Dispur in the city amid tight security arrangements.

The demonstrators shouted slogans demanding adoption of Jan Lokpal Bill and displayed placards and festoons having photographs of Hazare. One of the demonstrations was staged by activists of Purbottar Hindustani Yuva Parishad.

Dr Singh, who is a Rajya Sabha MP from Assam, has been officially holding the house at Sarumotoria in the city since 1991, the year he was first elected to Rajya Sabha from the state. The house belongs to Congress leader Dr Hemo Prabha Saikia, widow of former Assam Chief Minister Hiteswar Saikia.

The demonstrators before the Chakraborty's residence shouted slogans demanding the MP to lend her voice for introduction and adoption of Jan Lokpal Bill in the Parliament.

Meanwhile, the hunger-strike and peaceful demonstration organised by Assam chapter of India Against Corruption in favour of Jan Lokpal Bill continued to attract participation of citizens of various walks of life and students in the city for the seventh day on Thursday.

The demonstration and hunger-strike is being held on the bank of Dighalipukhuri in the heart of the city.
