Shahzad remanded to police custody for seven days

A Delhi court on Thursday, sent a suspected Indian Mujahideen terrorist to seven days' judicial custody in a case relating to synchronised explosions that killed 26 people in New Delhi on September 13, 2008.

Shahzad, arrested from Azamgarh district by Uttar Pradesh by Anti-Terror Squad on February 1, was remanded to judicial custody till March 4 by Chief Metropolitan Magistrate Kaveri Baweja as police did not seek his further custodial interrogation.

Shahazad's seven-days police remand ended today. The IM suspect, also an accused in the Batla House encounter in which a Delhi Police inspector was killed on September 19, 2008, was sent to judicial custody till February 20 in that case.

Shahzad is alleged to have fired at the deceased police officer M C Sharma. According to the Police, Shahzad, along with another IM operative Junaid, escaped during the encounter on with the special cell sleuths of Delhi Police at Batla House on September 19, 2008.

A total of five cases were registered in connection with the serial blasts.
