The Shahi Imam of Delhi's historic Jama Masjid Syed Ahmed Bukhari and a large number of his supporters were on Friday arrested when they tried to march towards the Kuwait embassy to protest Kuwait's support to the United States-led attack on Iraq.
Raising slogans against Kuwait and US, the anti-war protestors broke through the police picket and barricades erected a distance away from the embassy in Chanakyapuri, forcing the police to arrest them.
Bukhari and others were taken to Chanakyapuri Police Station and released later.
Earlier, addressing the Friday congregation at the Jama Masjid, Bukhari accused Kuwait of facilitating the killing of hundreds of Muslims in Iraq and said, "Allah and the Muslim world will never pardon Kuwait."
Kuwait embassy last week said it has rejected Bukhari's visa application to visit the Sheikhdom.
