In the wake of the Bharatiya Janata Party's humiliating defeat in the Delhi assembly elections, the Rashtriya Swayamsevak Sangh chief Mohan Bhagwat on Thursday met with the Sangh top brass and discussed the reasons behind the saffron party's debacle.

Bhagwat met top Sangh leaders at the ‘Keshav Kunj’ office of the RSS in Jhandewalan with Suresh Bhayyaji Joshi, the RSS second-in-command, its joint general secretaries Suresh Soni, Dattareya Hosbole and Krishan Gopal, who acts as the link between RSS and BJP, among those present for the meeting.

Sources said that during the meeting, held as part of a monthly exercise, Bhagwat discussed the reasons why BJP, which had received support from RSS, suffered such a heavy loss in Delhi.

“It is a routine monthly exercise where top RSS leaders meet and discuss important events in the country and also review the Sangh's activities,” a top RSS leader said.

The RSS brass is learnt to have discussed in detail the reasons behind BJP's drubbing at the hands of the Aaam Aadmi Party and mulled what corrective measures to take now to recover lost ground.

The massive defeat in Delhi that came within nine months of its stunning victory in Lok Sabha polls, when the party had bagged all seven seats in Delhi, came as a shocker to many in BJP and RSS.

RSS, which had provided infrastructural support at the grassroots level by way of manpower for reaching out to voters, is likely to recommend some course correction to BJP ahead of crucial polls in Bihar later this year.

Sources add that a joint meeting of senior RSS and BJP leaders is also likely to take place later this weekend to assess the loss and review the steps to be taken to bounce back.
