" I know I may not be directly involved in the incident . I own up the moral responsibility. Five workers were killed in the disaster, therefore I have decided to resign as managing director" Sreedharan told media-persons.
Sreedharan was in Bangalore,but rushed
to Delhi on learning of the incident.
According to sources his resignation is unlikely to be accepted. The Delhi police has registered a case of negligence against private contrators and DMRC officials at Amar Colony police station and special investigation unit has been constituted to investigate the matter.
Chief Minister Sheila Dikshit has announced an a compenstaion of Rs 5 lakh to next of kin of those killed in the incident, 2 lakh for those seriously injured and Rs 50,000 to those who have suffered minor injuries. The matter is likely to be raised in the Parliament on Monday.
