At a time when tensions are high over the repeated ceasefire violations perpetrated by Pakistan’s troops at the Line of Control and China’s incursions, Prime Minister Narendra Modi met the country's top military officers at the defence ministry.
He interacted with the army, navy and air force commanders for the first time, at the Combined Commanders’ Conference in New Delhi. He is expected to outline his strategic vision and get a briefing on the overall security situation.
The meeting is expected to focus on ceasefire violations by Pakistan and incursions by Chinese troops.
Some 100 officers are attending the conference. The National Security Adviser and Defence Secretary are also at the conference.
This is the first time that Modi is interacting with Air Force chief Arup Raha, Navy Chief RK Dhowan and Army chief Dalbir Singh Suhag.
Pakistan has been repeatedly violating the ceasefire along the International Border and the Line of Control for nearly two weeks and India has been retaliating with major force.
The day-long conference will also be addressed by Defence Minister Arun Jaitley, External Affairs Minister Sushma Swaraj and Home Minister Rajnath Singh.
