Jammu and Kashmir police on Monday said they have shot dead a top Lashkar-e-Toiba commander, allegedly involved in the Diwali-eve blasts in Delhi on October 29.

"Based on specific information from the Delhi police, the JK police and security forces surrounded a house in the north Kashmir village of Khour, 32 kilometres from Srinagar. The militants opened fire and we responded.

"In the ensuing gun-battle, one top LeT man, Abu Huzaifa alias Abdullah Bhai, was killed. Another militant is still holed up in the house and is firing at the forces," Inspector-General of Police K Rajendra told rediff.com.

He said the Delhi police had passed on the information that they got from a local, Tariq Ahmad Dar, who was picked up from Srinagar's Solina.

"He provided vital information about the whereabouts of the militants," Rajendra said.

On October 29, three blasts ripped through Delhi's busy markets, killing at least 55 and injuring 155, including foreigners.
