The Kerala police's cyber cell in coordination with Google, arrested a college student, who created fake profiles of two of his lady teachers with obscene text, 'to teach them a lesson' for chiding him for his poor performance in studies.

Nadir, a second year B.com student at MES College Marampilly at Perumbavoor near Kochi, was arrested on Thursday for offences under Section 67 of the Information Technology Act, produced before a first class magistrate at Aluva, and remanded to judicial custody.

The incident came to light when the lady teachers began receiving lewd calls, some even from outside the country. On the basis of their complaints, the principal approached Perumbavoor Rural SP, M Padmanabhan, who in turn referred the case to the cyber cell police of the city.

Subsequent investigations conducted with the help of Google to trace the user ID revealed that Nadir had created obscene profiles of both lady teachers and posted them on Orkut, Google's social networking website, with fake photographs, along with their phone numbers.

Enquiries revealed that the profiles were created from internet cafes in Thrissur and Aluva. The police tracked Nadir's name and telephone number from the registers at the cafe.

He was picked up for questioning and reportedly admitted during questioning that he resorted to defame them as revenge for their complaints to his parents. Hard discs and registers from the two cafes have been seized. The teachers complained to his parents that he used to cut classes and fared poorly in his studies.
