At least six Central Reserve Police Force jawans were injured when unidentified militants opened fired on their convoy on Srinagar-Jammu national highway in south Kashmir's Anantnag district on Monday.

Militants fired at a CRPF bus, which was part of a convoy on way to Jammu from Srinagar, near Green Tunnel at Samthan in Bijbehara, 50 kms from Srinagar, a police officer said.

CRPF troops escorting the convoy retaliated effectively, spokesman of the central reserve police force said. Traffic on the highway was halted as security forces cordoned off the area for searches.

He said six CRPF jawans were injured in the attack.

“Seven CRPF troopers were injured in the militant firing. The injured were evacuated to hospital for treatment,” the officer told rediff.com.

The officer added that the area has been cordoned off and a manhunt has been launched to nab the attackers.

No group has claimed responsibility for the attack which came a day after the Indian and Pakistani National Security Advisers met in Bangkok.

In New Delhi, Union Home Minister Rajnath Singh said the six injured CRPF jawans were out of danger.

"I have spoken to DG CRPF. He apprised me that all are out of danger. A convoy of CRPF was moving from one place to another."
