A special Delhi court on Thursday allowed Janata Party chief Subramanian Swamy to become a witness in his complaint against Home Minister P Chidambaram in the 2G case. The court also told Swamy to appear in the witness box on December 17 to give his statement.
Swamy had sought the court's permission to examine witnesses, including senior Central Bureau of Investigation officials, to establish erstwhile finance minister and present Home Minister P Chidambaram's role in the 2G spectrum allocation.
Swamy sought Chidambaram's impeachment, saying the decision on spectrum pricing was taken jointly by him and former telecom minister A Raja.
The court's decision comes in the wake of Swamy's long-pending demand for the inclusion of Chidambaram's name in the list of accused in the 2G scam.
While Chidambaram refused to comment on the issue, the Bharatiya Janata Party lost no time in asking for his resignation.
BJP leader Venkaiah Naidu declared, "We will first press for his resignation and then we will talk about the role of the prime minister. The court's order proves that our allegations are correct," he said.
