The All India Muslim Personal Law Board said on Friday that the judiciary should put in place a mechanism for consultation with Muslim religious heads and scholars when dealing with vital issues concerning Islam and Shariat.
"Courts have passed many verdicts against Shariat and Islamic laws. So, the courts should seek the opinion of Muslim religious heads on issues of Shariat and Islam," AIMPLB chairman Syed Mohammed Rabe Nadvi Nadvi said on the sidelines of an international seminar on 'Holy Quran' in Thiruvanathapuram.
On the recent apex court's observations on living-in relationship, Nadvi said it was "un-Islamic" and the Board did not approve the practice.
Stating that reforms in Shariat laws were not possible, Nadvi said no one has the authority to make amendments and additions to it which was "a message from the God".
However, he said, religious scholars are trying to find solutions to the new generation problems within the framework of Shariat.
On complaints of abuse of 'talaq' practice, Nadvi said it was not a weapon to trouble anybody, but a mechanism for separation of married couples with "love and happiness".
"It is wrong to criticise the whole practice by pinpointing isolated cases...It is wrong to blame the whole community for the wrongdoings of a few people," Nadvi said.
On Women's Reservation Bill, the AIMPLB chief said, "Different Muslim committees have expressed their views on the matter. As it is a political issue, the board would not interfere."
He said the Board has taken an initiative for a campaign against terrorism. "It is wrong to put the blame on the community for the actions of a few individuals," he said.
