Hundreds of protestors on Thursday stormed the United States embassy in Yemen's capital Sanaa to protest over an anti-Islam film. The mob chanted 'death to America' and after defying the security around the compound, managed to enter it.
The protesters brought the US flag down, burnt it and replaced it with a black banner. The media reports didn't indicate if any embassy official was present in the building at the time of the incident.
The protestors continued their rampage by burning tyres and throwing stones at the embassy. Security forces fired tear gas shells to disperse the mob.
Meanwhile, violence returned to Cairo's streets on Thursday as Egypt's police clashed with a violent crowd protesting outside the US embassy against the film.
The police used tear gas to disperse the crowd during sporadic clashes, where on Wednesday thousands of protesters had climbed on the embassy walls and torn down the Stars and Stripes.
According to official records, so far 16 protesters have been injured in addition to several police officers. A police car was also burnt when it attempted to head to the embassy.
The documentary film had also sparked fury in Libya where four Americans, including the ambassador, were killed when a mob attacked the US consulate in Benghazi on Wednesday.
Meanwhile, the ruling Muslim Brotherhood has called for peaceful protests on Friday.
