A man and a 17-year-old girl, suspected to be in a relationship, were found hanging from a tree in a village in Chhattisgarh's Dhamtari district on Wednesday, police said.
Locals informed the police after spotting Manes Markam (20) and the girl hanging from a tree in a field in Mahuabahara village under the jurisdiction of Sihawa police station in the morning, an official said.
While the girl lived in Mahuabahara, the man hailed from nearby Gendabharri village, he said.
Preliminary investigation suggested the two were in love and allegedly committed suicide, fearing their families would not accept their relationship, he said.
The duo had been missing from their homes since Tuesday evening. The field where their bodies were discovered reportedly belongs to the girl's father, he said.
The bodies have been sent for post-mortem, and further investigation into the matter is underway, he added.
