Chennai mishap: 10 trains cancelled, services badly hit

The Southern Railway has temporarily cancelled about 10 trains passing through Arakkonam-Katpadi section following Tuesdayday night's train mishap at Sitheri near Arakkonam.

According to a statement by Southern Railway on Wednesday, the cancelled trains were Chennai Central-Bangalore Mail, Chennai Central-Erode Yercaud express, Chennai Central-Coimbatore Kovai Express, Coimbatore-Chennai Central Kovai Express, Chennai Central-Bangalore Brindavan Express.

The Bangalore-Chennai Central Brindavan Express, Chennai Central-Coimbatore Duronto Express, Coimbatore-Chennai Central Duronto Express, Erode-Chennai Central Yercaud Express, Tirupattur-Chennai Central, Chennai Central-Tirupattur, Jolarpettai-Arakkonam, Arakkonam-Jolarpettai were also cancelled.

Nine trains scheduled to leave Chennai Central today were also rescheduled while five trains were diverted via Villupuram junction.

The trains that were rescheduled include Chennai-Central Mangalore Westcoast Express, Chennai Central-Ahmedabad Navjeevan Express, Chennai-Central Trivandrum Express, Bangalore-Chennai Central Shatabdi Express, Bangalore-Chennai Central Lalbaugh Express, Chennai Central-Bangalore Express, Chennai Central-Mangalore Express, Chennai Central-Coimbatore Intercity Express, it said.
