A day after registration of FIR against him in a recruitment scam, the Centre has asked Madhya Pradesh Governor Ram Naresh Yadav to quit from the post.
The home ministry has conveyed its decision in this regard to the Governor as he has been named in the case, official sources said, adding that his position has become untenable in view of the FIR.
"A report has been sought from the state government and Governor's office on the entire matter," they said.
However, when contacted, Raj Bhawan spokesperson said in Bhopal, "There is no communication in this regard from Delhi."
Yadav was named in an FIR registered on Tuesday by Special Task Force probing the multi-crore Madhya Pradesh Professional Examination Board or Vyapam scam under various sections of IPC, including 420 for cheating.
Yadav had allegedly recommended the names of five candidates for recruitment as forest guards to the top officials of MPPEB which conducted the examination.
The registration of FIR comes following a hearing in the matter in the Madhya Pradesh High Court on February 20 when a division bench comprising Chief Justice A M Khanwilkar and Justice Alok Aradhe had said, "the STF is free to proceed against the high dignitary.
The MPPEB scam is a massive admission and recruitment scandal involving politicians and some senior and influential state government officials and the Governor's role in it had come under the scanner since the arrest of his Officer on Special Duty Dhanraj Yadav in MPPEB's Pre-Medical Test.
His son Shailesh Yadav's name too had cropped up during the investigation when an accused had alleged he was paid money for recruitment of contractual teachers.
Yadav, a former Uttar Pradesh chief minister, was appointed by the Congress in 2011 and his term was set to end in September 2016.
‘Only 5 per cent scams exposed so far'
Meanwhile,
"It is only 5 per cent of entire scam which has been exposed. The scam is much bigger," Pandey said.
Pandey, who hails from Indore, is living in New Delhi along with his family as he fears threat to life from strong people in power in that state.
"I still fear some thing may happen to me. I am thankful that judiciary has understood my stand and provided me with security," Pandey said.
"There are many influential people involved in the case. I am going to expose them all. I have more information in the matter which I will be sharing with the Supreme Court or Delhi high court," he said.
"I was recommended by a senior Indian Revenue Service officer to Sudhir Kumar Sahi, Additional Director General of STF. He sought my help in the matter and I agreed. During the course of investigation we got good information against influential and powerful people of the state."
"Trouble started when one of the Congress leaders went to the press giving details of call detail records (CDRs) claiming the role of chief minister in it. Since then I have been framed in false cases and facing threat," said Pandey, who is out on bail.
He was arrested for allegedly having CDRs of many individuals by Bhopal Police in August last year. He had later secured bail in the matter. Pandey claimed a senior IPS officer and other state police officials of the state framed him to avoid naming of certain people in the scam.
Dismssing speculation that he was aligned to Congress, he said, "I have got nothing to do with Congress. I have been working with law and enforcement agencies for long. It is for good of all that all irregularities in the Vyapam scam come in public."
