The ongoing probe is being conducted by a special investigation team formed by the state police after the arrests.
The militant-cops nexus came to fore following an attempt to kill a former Hizbul Mujaheedin militant Ghulam Hassan Mir in Srinagar on June 7.
Mir had shifted to Srinagar from south Kashmir Tral town after his release in 2007 and was running a grocery at Sadrebal near Hazratbal in the capital city.
Three local policemen, according to sources, were arrested immediately after the attempt on Mir.
The police immediately formed a SIT and sources say that one of the arrested cops is the kingpin of the nexus on whose disclosure five persons have been arrested from south Kashmir.

Two days back, a police spokesman had in a statement said that the central agencies had also been associated with the investigation. "In the ongoing investigation lodged under Section 10,13,18 of the Unlawful Activities Prevention Act and Section 3 of Police Enhanced Penalities Ordinance, the central agencies have also been associated," the police statement said.
The sources also confirmed that six policemen -- three each from the executive police and the state intelligence wing -- have been detained so far for questioning. "We have so far arrested only six policemen and five other persons. Based on the custodial questioning of the arrested persons, we may question some more persons," the sources said.
"We will share the information with other intelligence and security force agencies as part of our coordination," sources said.
