Dr N K Kalia, father of Captain Saurabh Kalia who laid down his life for the country during the 1999 Kargil war, has welcomed the words of appreciation spoken by Army Chief General Bikram Singh on the Army Day.

"I appreciate his kind words," Dr Kalia told Rediff.com on phone from his residence in Palampur in Kangra district of Himachal Pradesh.

Army chief had called upon the army commanders to put the troops on full alert and be prepared to take retaliatory action if Pakistan tries to create more mischief.

General Bikram Singh also spoke about the valour of Captain Kalia and assured the National Human Rights Commission full support to Dr N K Kalia in his battle in the International Court of Justice.

Captain Saurabh Kalia was brutally tortured by the Pakistani troops during the Kargil war. His father has repeatedly appealed to the Indian authorities to act against the Pakistan government, and had approached the United Nations Human Rights Council seeking action against Pakistan.
