Uttar Pradesh Chief Minister Mayawati on Monday nominated a leader from Tamil Nadu, Ambedkar Rajan, as a Rajya Sabha member from Uttar Pradesh.
The move is said to be Mayawati's step to take the BSP to the southern states.
Rajan, aged 42, hails from Salem in Tamil Nadu -- and shall be in Rajya Sabha up to August 2010. He will take the place vacated by Mayawati after she become chief minister.
The BSP aim is to contest a minimum of ten seats to Lok Sabha from Tamil Nadu.
Rajan, who was a personal assistant to Kanshi Ram, is now the BSP treasurer.
Rajan's nomination comes as no surprise to the BSP cadre as it is well known that Mayawati depends on him and seeks his word regarding every major issue.
When rediff.com spoke to him, Rajan expressed his happiness and said his plan of action is to field ten candidates to the Lok Sabha from Tamil Nadu and 100 seats in the assembly.
