A BSF jawan was killed on Thursday when Pakistani troops opened sniper fire at Indian forward post along the Line of Control in Baramulla of North Kashmir, officials said in Srinagar.

The incident, coming ahead of the meeting between Prime Minister Narendra Modi and his Pakistani counterpart Nawaz Sharif in Russia on Friday, took place at around 3.30 pm when the jawan, posted in Karam post in Uri area of Baramulla sector, collapsed after being hit in his right eye by a bullet from across the border, the officials said.

BSF Director General D K Pathak confirmed the incident.

The jawan has been identified as Krishna Kumar Dubey, a constable in Border Security Force.

This is the first time that Pakistani troops have opened fire in this sector this year.

The Pakistani firing was retaliated by the troops and some casualties were inflicted on the other side, the officials claimed.
