Boy killed in celebratory firing in UP

A young boy was killed today during celebratory firing allegedly by Samajwadi supporters after the party candidate's victory in Sambhal area while workers from

the same party clashed with some TV cameramen in Jhansi during which their equipment was broken.

Police said the 12-year-old boy identified as Danish died after being hit by a bullet during celebratory firing allegedly by supporters of SP candidate from Sambhal assembly seat Iqbal Mahmood this evening. Sambhal is about 350 km from Lucknow.

Superintendent of Police D K Garg said necessary action was being taken.

Reports reaching here from Jhansi, about 300 km from Lucknow, said supporters of SP clashed with some TV cameramen during which some of their equipments were broken. A complaint in this regard has been registered with the district administration, sources said.

Meanwhile, Counting for the Babina assembly seat in Jhansi had to be stopped after the seal of 17 EVMs were found broken.

Official sources said following objections from SP candidate Chandrapal Singh Yadav counting was stopped in the evening. Sources said further directives have been sought from the Election Commission.

District magistrate Anil Garg when contacted said counting has been stopped after some people raised objections over some matter.
