Accusing the Congress of indulging in corruption and non-performance, the Bharatiya Janata Party on Wednesday said there was a "severe anti-Congress wave" in the country and asserted that it would win in four poll-bound states, including Rajasthan.
"The BJP would return to power in Chhattisgarh and Madhya Pradesh as people have accepted incumbent chief ministers Raman Singh and Shivraj Singh Chouhan as their most trusted and creditable leaders, while in Rajasthan and Delhi, BJP will have a comfortable majority to form the new governments," BJP leader Arun Jaitley told a press conference in Jaipur.
The referendum will help in deciding BJP's Lok Sabha poll agenda and the party’s prime ministerial candidate Narendra Modi's support will grow tremendously, he said.
Claiming that the anti-Congress wave was a national trend, Jaitley, Leader of the Opposition in Rajya Sabha, said the Centre's mismanagement of the economy has led to inflation and price rise of essential commodities, corruption cases and lapses in internal security.
These issues were seriously affecting the common man, who found the Congress leadership to be "indecisive, incompetent and non-inspirational".
He said in BJP's CM candidate Vasundhara Raje's dynamic and inspirational leadership -- as opposed to the Gehlot government's "all-round failure" and moral downfall of its ministers in alleged rape cases -- would help his party come to power in the state.
When asked about Tehelka Editor Tarun Tejpal seeking to shift his case from Goa, alleging that the BJP government there was taking "undue interest" in his case, Jaitley said primarily, he would not like to comment as the matter was in court, but the venue of the offence committed by the man was not a concern of any government.
On a question on whether the BJP had dropped the Ram Mandir issue, he said the case was under legal scrutiny but the issue was still on the BJP's agenda.
On distribution of anonymous posters, CDs and booklets against Raje, Jaitley said it was the opposition Congress' "desperate and dirty tactic" to tarnish the image of BJP's “dynamic and inspirational leader”.
