Senior Bharatiya Janata Party leaders Ravi Shankar Prasad and Tarun Vijay on Friday rejected the government theory that the Central Bureau of Investigation raids on Congress MP Suresh Kalmadi, chairman of the Commonwealth Games Organising Committee is a natural culmination of unearthing the corruption in staging the gala Games.
"This is nothing but a hogwash," both the leaders of BJP maintained.
"We want the government to institute a Joint Parliamentary Committee to go into all the scams and Kalmadi is not the only one who is involved in corruption," Ravi Shankar Prasad said.
Kalmadi's Delhi and Pune residences were raided by CBI sleuths on Friday morning.
Speaking to rediff.com, Tarun Vijay said that by moving against Kalmadi alone is not going to pay dividends. "How can they leave Delhi Chief Minister Sheela Dikshit and several others who were involved in the staging of the Games?" he said.
He maintained that this is a blatant attempt to shield 'the real whales and sharks.' "I would ask Kalmadi to turn approver and expose the entire political game played by power brokers. JPC will have all encompassing investigation and not targeting someone in particular. The raids expose the nervousness in the Congress," Tarun Vijay said.
Meanwhile, Congress spokesperson Jayanthi Natrajan said that the BJP is only seeking to gain political mileage out of the raids being conducted by the CBI at the residences of Kalmadi.
"The party has nothing to do with Kalmadi holding a post in sports arena. Sports bodies are autonomous and an individual can hold these post on his own," she clarified.
