Condemning the shoe hurling incident, the Bharatiya Janata Party on Tuesday said that the Congress should take lessons from it and withdraw its anti-Sikh riot accused candidates from the Lok Sabha elections.

"We condemn the incident. It is unfortunate but this is an occasion for the Congress to take lessons," party spokesperson Siddharth Nath Singh told reporters.

The saffron party urged its rival Congress to reconsider the candidature of anti-Sikh riot accused Sajjan Kumar and Jagdish Tytler, who are contesting the Lok Sabha elections on Congress tickets, from South Delhi and North East respectively.

"We would like to suggest that the Congress should withdraw Sajjan Kumar and Jagdish Tytler from the fray, if it respects the sentiments of the Sikh community," Singh said.

The party, however, maintained that the act was an expression of the sentiments of the Sikh community.

Jarnail Singh of a Hindi daily hurled a shoe at Chidambaram, protesting against the Central Bureau of Investigation's clean chit to senior Congress leader Jagdish Tytler, who was an accused in the 1984 anti-Sikh riots case. Chidambaram was addressing a press conference at the All India Congress Committee headquarters.
