Central team to survey flood-hit Bihar

A Central team will survey flood-affected areas of Bihar on Monday and Tuesday.

The team will comprise the joint secretaries of six Union ministries -- home, agriculture, finance, health & rehabilitation, civil supplies & food and social welfare. The team will assess the damage and submit a report to the Prime Minister's Office by the end of this week.

The composition of the team has been worked out, a special aircraft is expected to take them to Patna first on Monday evening.

To work out these details, Union Home Secretary Madhukar Gupta had a detailed meeting with Cabient Secretary K M Chandrasekhar on Monday.

The Centre wants more motor boats to ferry the drowned.

T Nand Kumar who assumed office as secretary of Union Ministry of Agricultre also joined the discussion.

Nand Kumar is a Bihar cadre IAS officer. Hence, he knows the real problems the state faces as of now.

The governments of Kerala and West Bengal will assist Bihar with more motor boats and divers to rescue marooned people.
