Bihar: Rs 100 cr seized from premises of DIG, officials

Cash and investment documents worth around Rs 100 crore were seized during searches by Bihar police in premises belonging to four officials, including suspended Deputy Inspector General Alok Kumar.

The search was conducted by sleuths of Economic Offence Unit of the Bihar police in 17 premises belonging to executive engineer of Rural Engineering Organisation Mithilesh Kumar, executive engineer of public health and

engineering department Nageshwar Sharma and sub-inspector (enforcement) Mohammad Yunus, besides that of the DIG, Additional Director General of Police, headquarters, Ravinder Kumar said.

The search continued till wee hours on Thursday.

Director General of Police Abhyanand told PTI that raids were conducted after registration of three FIRs with the EOU police station against them under Prevention of Corruption Act.

No arrest has been made so far but investigations were on in all the cases, he said, adding the departments concerned would be given details of the raids and recoveries by police for initiating action against them.

DIG Alok Kumar has already been put under suspension by the state government following complaints of extortion of Rs 10 crore from a liquor trader in Saran district recently.

Kumar, an IPS officer of Jammu and Kashmir cadre, had earlier served as senior superintendent of police of Patna.

The searches revealed that sub-inspector Yunus was richest among the four officials, the ADGP said.

Posted in Kaimur district, he owns a cinema hall, a training college and a school at Muzaffarpur besides a hotel at Mohania in Kaimur.

Besides, the EOU sleuths recovered documents regarding purchase of over 25 acres of land at Muzaffarpur and papers of 34 vehicles run for a private school, he added.

In searches at premises belonging to Mithilesh Kumar, Rs 14,00,000 in cash, bank/LIC investments of Rs 20,00,000, 220 gram gold jewellery and keys of two lockers in banks have come to light, the ADGP said.

From the premises belonging to Nageswar Sharma, recoveries included Rs 2,87,600 in cash, five luxurious cars -- two BMWs, one Landcruiser and one Fortune and Innova -- papers relating to investment of over Rs 20 lakh in different saving schemes and purchase of more than 20 properties in and around Patna, he added.

Bihar Chief Minister Nitish Kumar had told the assembly on Wednesday that documents relating to the purchase of land have been found from the DIG's premises.
