Bihar Chief Minister Nitish Kumar has ordered a probe by AGP (headquarter) Rajyavardhan Sharma into the police lathicharge on locals in Nalanda and immediate suspension of the policemen who were involved in the incident.

"Legal action must be taken against those found guilty," he said. The CM asked the state director general of police to view TV footage and take legal action against policemen involved in the lathicharge.

He also asked Sharma to visit the spot and submit a report immediately on the situation.

Meanwhile, Nalanda Superintendent of Police Jitendra Rana suspended constable Vibhuti Jha and home-guard Nageshwar Pandey in connection with the incident.

Taking cognisance of media reports of the police lathicharge, the Bihar Human Rights Commission on Thursday issued notice to state Director General of Police Abhyanand and directed to submit a report in three days.

The BHRC chairman justice S N Jha has condemned the police.
"It is a serious matter that police lathicharged on people including women and assaulted them " Jha told rediff.com over the telephone.

Over 12 people, including some women, were injured in police lathicharge to disperse a mob which indulged in stone throwing, arson and road blockade near Noorsarai police station in the district on Wednesday. They were demanding that judicial secretary (Panchayat) Reena Devi, who has been missing since August 24, should be traced immediately.

The women were brutally assaulted by the policemen when the irate mob gathered near Noor Sarai police station.

The incident had occurred in the presence of Deputy Inspector General (central range) Vineet Vinayak and Rana.
