Two people were killed and over a dozen injured in police firing in Bihar's Madhubani district on Friday afternoon during a clash with an angry mob that pelted stones at policeman, and torched the collectorate and a police station and several vehicles.

The mob was demanding to hand over the headless body of a 17-year-old Prashant Kumar, who had disappeared mysteriously last month and believed to have been murdered, the police said.

The police also lathicharged and lobbed tear smoke shells to disperse the mob after protestors turned violent and attacked police near the town police station in which several protestors and police officials were injured.

All the injured were admitted to a nearby hospital. According to an official of district administration situation is tense in Madhubani town as people took to the streets to protest killing of two youths in police firing.

"Additional policemen with anti-riot vehicles were deployed in the town to control the situation at night," official said.

According to a district official, hundreds of people joined Prashant's family, who were demanding the police to hand over the headless body they claimed was his.

But the police refused the body which was recovered 11 days ago. Prashant's family alleged that he was killed by some powerful persons from Madhubani last month for an alleged love affair.

Some students took out a protest march demanding on early Friday morning arrest of the culprits and a Central Bureau of Investigation probe into Prashant's mysterious disappearance from the Indian Public School last month, police said.

The students were demanding arrest of District Project Officer, Education, Jagpat Chaudhary, education department employee Narayan  Jha and Bechan Jha, a teacher.
