A fast track court in Bengaluru on Monday sentenced six Lashkar-e-Tayiba militants to life imprisonment.
The court, presided by Judge Revankar, had found them guilty on Saturday and reserved the verdict for Monday.
Mohammad Razur, Afsar Pasha, 33, Ibrahim Sab Chopdar, Noorualla Khan, Mohammad Irfan and Munna were found guilty under Indian Penal Code's sections 120 (conspiracy), 121 (waging, or attempting to wage war, or abetting waging of war, against the government of India), 121A (conspiracy to commit offences) sections 3 and 4 of Explosives Substance Act (causing explosion likely to endanger life or property/ attempt to cause explosion, or for making or keeping explosive with intent to endanger life or property).
The name of these men had cropped up while the Bengaluru police was probing the terror strike on the IISC. But the investigators later found that they were working for a different module that was not connected with the one that carried out the terror attack.
Explosives were recovered from these men and the police claimed that they were planning to carry out a series of attacks to avenge the demolition of the Babri Masjid.
The police also found jihadi literature, used to recruit youth for terror operations, with them. According to investigators, these men reported to a terror module based in Saudi Arabia.
