The Bengaluru Police was left red-faced after Ajaz Ahmed Mirza, a junior scientist at Defence Research and Development Organisation’s Centre for Airborne Systems who was arrested in connection with a major assassination plot, was let off by a special court on Thursday.
Mirza was among the 15 persons picked up for allegedly plotting to kill some journalists and political leaders linked with right-wing Hindu organizations.
The court order to release Mirza came after the National Investigation Agency stated that it had no proof against him.
Mirza is the third person to be released from prison. Two days back, journalist Mathi-ur-Rehman and a technician, Yusuf Nalband were released on the same ground.
The 25-year-old scientist was staying in the same house where the rest of the accused were staying.
The Bengaluru Police had accused them of plotting the assassination of several persons in association with youth from Maharashtra and Andhra Pradesh.
After the NIA took over the case from the Bengaluru Police it had chargesheeted only 12 out of the 15 persons.
