A petition has been filed in the Bombay high court seeking action in the matter of complaints that were made before the Azad Maidan police station pertaining to the recent riots connected to the Assam issue.
Nazar Mohammad Siddique, Shaikh Junaid Abdul Rashid and Akbar Raunak Ali Khan say that they were shot at without any warning by unknown police officers.
The petitioners say that on Saturday at around 2.30 pm they were going home on their motorbikes. Near the Azad Maidan they saw that there was firing. A petitioner says that he was chased and attacked by the SLR-armed policemen and shot at.
The petitioners claim that they did not have a clue as to what had happened that day.
The petitioners have pleaded with the court to transfer the case to any specialised investigating agency constituted under the high court, under the regular supervision of present bench.
Separate investigations may be conducted by the chairman of the State Human Right Commission against the offending police officer or under the supervision of sitting judge of the Bombay high court. In addition to this they have also sought compensation of Rs 10 lakh each.
