Two Indian students died in a Melbourne suburb in southern Australia when their car dashed into an electric pole early Tuesday.

"The two male occupants of a Hyundai Sedan died when their car lost control and collided with an electric pole on the Sherbourne Road in Montmorency in suburban Melbourne at around 1:30 am," Victoria Police sources said.

They have been identified as Pradeep Singh, 29, of Delhi and Prashant Segan, 24, of Andhra Pradesh. "The two men were residents of Reservoir suburb in the city," they said. Segan was a student at La Trobe University.

"We are in touch with the Victorian authorities and are ready to extend every possible help to the bereaved families," said Prabhat Shukla, Indian High Commissioner to Australia.
