Assam to have Research and Analysis Centre

Assam government has decided to create the Special Branch of police department as a separate autonomous body and form a Research and Analysis Centre for socio-economic and cultural developments in the state.

According to an official release, the decision was taken at a meeting of the State Security Commission headed by Chief Minister Tarun Gogoi.

"The meeting decided to create special branch as a separate autonomous organisation for effective intelligence gathering with a dedicated cadre of intelligence officers," the statement said.

"It decided to form a Research and Analysis Centre with multi-disciplinary experts for analysing the socio-economic and cultural developments by collating information from all possible sources," it added.

The meeting also discussed threadbare about the steps to be initiated for separation of law and order from investigation, the release said.

Meanwhile, a law and order meeting was convened by Gogoi to discuss the prevailing situation along the Assam- Nagaland border.

"The meeting decided to take all possible measures for strengthening security along the Assam-Nagaland border, continuation of dialogue at community levels as part of confidence building measures and strengthening of critical roads," the release said.

It also stressed on ensuring early return of the remaining 1,740 persons housed in relief camps to their respective homes following firing and arson by miscreants from Nagaland along the inter-state border in Golaghat district.
