The police said that NHPC General Manager Anil Kumar Agarwal was abducted by a group six armed militants at Baromile area near Chariduar in Sonitpur district of North Assam after waylaying his vehicle.

The official was coming from Tawang Hydro-Electric Project in Arunachal Pradesh. The militants who had come on motorcycles left behind the driver and the Safari vehicle of the official.

Though the needle of suspicion is pointed to National Democratic Front of Bodoland  faction led by Sangbijit, the police was yet to confirm about it. The army and the police have launched search operation in jungle areas of Baromile in search of the abducted official.
