Assam Chief Minister Tarun Gogoi on Monday ordered a probe against an assault of a woman TV journalist and a videographer by police personnel at a police station in Guwahati on Saturday.

The CM has asked Additional Chief Secretary Rajiv Bora to submit the probe report within a month and said action will be taking accordingly.

The journalist, who works for a Guwahati-based news channel DY365, alleged that she was physically abused in the Latasil police station in central Guwahati while she was reporting.

In her first information report to the officer-in-charge, the woman informed that she went with her cameraperson to the police station on Saturday to cover a story on the dilapidated condition of its premises.

In the process, they found that a police quarter inside the campus was rented out to outsiders. Soon after completing their work, both the reporter and the cameraperson were assaulted allegedly by Sub Inspector Samsuddin Ahmed and officer-in-charge Chidananda Bora along with other police officers.

The cops threatened them not to publish the story and broke their equipment in the process.

Journalists joined protests in Assam against the incident.

The Electronic Media Forum of Assam has lodged a complaint with the National Commission for Women. Several journalists were detained for several hours by police on Monday when they assembled in front of state secretariat to protest.
