Assam's Black Widow militants surrender arms

Over 360 militants belonging to Dima Halam Daogah (DHD-Jewel) have surrendered in Assam, along with a huge cache of hi-tech foreign made weapons ahead of Tuesday's deadline for laying down the arms.

Official sources said that those surrendered include 138 armed cadre of DHD-J, commonly known as 'Black Widow', led by the outfit's deputy chief Daniel Dimasa and senior leader Daku Sing. The arms surrendered included 37 AK series assault rifles, ten M-16 rifles, 11 US carbines, two each of Self-Loading Rifles and M-21 rifle, one each of Insas rifle, sten gun, 40-mm gun, Universal Machine Gun, Rocket Propelling Gun and 9-mm

pistols.

The militants also surrendered 7,303 grenades and over 10,000 assorted ammunition before the Central Reserve Police Force and local police. While 193 cadres had surrendered on Sunday, sources said about 171 have surrendered on Monday. The outfit has come overground as a part of their ceasefire process after the Centre asked them to surrender their arms before September 15.
