The Assam police have arrested six people for having links with jihadi elements in the Dhubri sector of western Assam along the India-Bangladesh border.
The arrests come after the Assam police stepped up vigilance in the area after threats of infiltration from the Bangladeshi side.
The six persons arrested have been identified as -- Siraj Ali Khan, Rafiqul Islam, Saiful Islam, Johoruddin, Goam Osmani and Sarbesh Ali.
Police in the area have been on high alert after the death of two suspected jihadists -- Sakil Ahmed and Sobhan Mondal at Bardhaman in West Bengal while they were making bombs on October 2.
The death of the jihadists also brought to light the collusion between the Jamatul Mujahideen Bangladesh and the Indian Mujahideen, who has sworn to spread terror and fear in the country.
Sources within the intelligence agencies said that they suspected that the terrorists from the JMB and the IM were conspiring to carry out a terror strike in cities across the country and were stockpiling explosives in West Bengal to implement their sinister plan.
Recently, Assam police seized a huge cache of explosives from a bus bound for Goalpara district in western Assam in Guwahati city and arrested two persons in this connection.
